Topics in this article

The London-based company Beeline, which specialises in routing and navigation for cyclists, is presenting extensive innovations for its product range. The focus is on the Velo 2 bike sat nav and the accompanying smartphone app. The We already had Beeline Velo 2 in the big BIKE test. The developers have revised numerous functions and implemented new features to further improve the user experience. At the same time, Beeline is announcing a new sales partnership for the German market.

User-orientated further development

Since its foundation in 2015, the Beeline team has been working continuously to optimise route planning and navigation for cyclists. The updates now released for the bike 2 and the Beeline app are designed to make the products even more intuitive and provide an improved driving experience. A key aspect of the further development is the integration of the komoot route planning platform. This connection enables users to combine the best adventures from both platforms and opens up new possibilities for experiences and discoveries.

Precise bike navigation thanks to extended functions

One of the main innovations is the extended altitude profile. Cyclists now get a detailed preview of upcoming climbs along the route directly on the Velo 2 display. The feature shows a detailed elevation profile with the current position, the remaining distance and a colour-graded profile of the climbs to visualise the level of difficulty. This function is intended to make it easier to assess climbs and manage your strength accordingly.

Improved GPX navigation and recording

According to Beeline, route guidance has been significantly optimised. GPX files can now be imported and navigated with even greater accuracy - even in complex or remote areas. Another new feature that was implemented at the request of the Beeline community is the ability to start and record rides directly from the Velo 2 device. This should simplify the workflow and make it possible to spontaneously track tours without necessarily having to use a smartphone.

Free voice navigation

An important step towards improving accessibility is the introduction of free voice navigation. This function, which was previously only available in paid versions, is now part of the free app. The voice navigation with precise turn-by-turn directions is intended to ensure greater safety and cycling comfort, as cyclists do not have to take their eyes off the road. For users in German-speaking countries, Beeline has announced that voice navigation will soon be available in German.

Hardware for more robustness

In addition to the software improvements, Beeline has also optimised the hardware of the Velo 2 bike navigator. To further increase performance under demanding conditions, the device is now supplied with a black silicone cover. The company also offers an optional Protection Pack, which consists of a silicone cover in various colours and a robust display protector. These accessories are designed to make the Velo 2 even more resistant to the elements.

New sales partnership for Germany

Beeline also announces an expansion of its sales structures. The company is pleased to present Hartje as a new sales partner for the German market. This partnership builds on many years of successful cooperation in the motorbike segment and will now be extended to the bicycle sector, according to the company. Both sides see great potential in this step and look forward to the joint further development with great motivation.

Mark Jenner, co-founder of Beeline, emphasises the importance of the partnership: "We are delighted to be able to further expand our collaboration with Hartje. On the motorbike side, we can already look back on a successful and established cooperation - so we are all the more excited to continue and further expand this success story together in the bicycle sector." Tom Putnam, also co-founder, adds: "Our mission is to enable all cyclists to navigate safely and confidently - for even more freedom and adventure on every tour. The komoot integration, the new elevation profile and the now free voice navigation are just some of the highlights that will take the experience for our community to the next level."

The latest update of the Beeline app is now available in the App Store and Google Play Store. Interested cyclists can now benefit directly from the new functions and plan and carry out their tours with an extended range of functions.
