Thok Grow: Italian MTB specialists are launching carbon gravel bikes from 2,990 euros

​With the Grow range, Thok is entering a segment in which the Italian brand has not previously been represented: gravel bikes without electric assistance. The manufacturer, best known for its e-mountain bikes, is thus unveiling its first so-called ‘bio-bike’. The new range was unveiled at the International Bike Festival in Misano.

We are looking for: a sporty target audience

All three models are based on the same carbon monocoque frame with internally routed cables. Thok refers to a ‘race geometry’, but does not specify any exact figures for reach, stack, wheelbase or head angle. This leaves it unclear just how sporty or suitable for long-distance riding the riding position actually is.

The frame is available in sizes M, L and XL. Thok has so far provided no details regarding weight, maximum tyre clearance or mounting points for panniers, mudguards or additional bottle cages. This information would be of particular interest to cyclists looking for a gravel bike for multi-day tours. The only feature visible in the photos is a storage compartment integrated into the down tube. Across all models, Thok fits Schwalbe G-One R tyres in the 45-622 size. The 45-millimetre-wide tyres suggest a range of use intended to cover tarmac, compacted gravel and easier off-road trails.

Thok claims that its first-ever gravel bike is suitable for a wide range of uses. At first glance, the technical specifications point to a sport-oriented design: all three models feature single-chainring set-ups and widely spaced cassettes – which, thanks to the simplified gear-changing logic, means they are primarily aimed at gravel cyclists who take off-road riding seriously. With 44, 42 and 40 teeth respectively, the chainrings differ significantly depending on the model – the Pro, with the largest chainring, is accordingly aimed at the more performance-oriented customer base.

Three trim levels ranging from 2,990 to 4,990 euros

At 4,990 euros, the Grow Pro is the top-of-the-range model in the series. It combines an electronic SRAM Force AXS groupset with a GX-T-Type rear derailleur, carbon wheels from Zipp and an integrated Thok carbon handlebar. A Quarq power metre is also included as standard. Thok positions the Pro as a racing-oriented model. It remains to be seen whether the overall design lives up to this claim in actual riding conditions.

The Grow Comp, priced at 3,990 euros, sits right in the middle of the range and also features an electronic AXS groupset, albeit with more affordable SRAM Rival components and Miche Sterrato 45 wheels, which are also made of carbon. The 10–52 cassette is paired with a 42-tooth chainring; the Italians have omitted the integrated power metre from the more affordable Comp model.

At 2,990 euros, the Grow FR (First Ride), as an entry-level model, still falls firmly within the mid-price range. This version combines a SRAM Apex XPLR with a mechanical Apex Eagle rear derailleur, an 11–50 cassette and DT Swiss G1800 wheelsets. Unlike the two more expensive models, Thok does not use an integrated carbon cockpit here, but rather an FSA stem with a separate A-Wing Pro AGX handlebar from FSA.

The new Grow range is set to be available from March 2027 in specialist shops and online via Thok. There will be a total of four colour finishes to choose from. Alongside this, Thok has launched the digital platform ‘Thok Arcade’. Here, interested parties will be able to access content relating to the product launch, interactive promotions and information on how to place an order. Ultimately, however, the technical specifications – which are still to be confirmed – and initial real-world experiences are likely to be more important when it comes to the purchasing decision. Thok also reserves the right to change specification details without prior notice until the market launch.
