Canyon has chosen the Evation motor from Bavarian manufacturer Fazua as the drive system for the Endurace:On AL. It is not only extremely quiet. The drive unit is also so discreetly integrated that the Endurace:On AL can hardly be distinguished from a "real" road bike at first glance - which is certainly what most customers will want.
Fazua: Popular e-drive from Bavaria
The Fazua drive is one of the pioneers of the e-road bike. Models with Evation motors are now available from many suppliers, including Cube, Corratec, Focus, Look, Pinarello and Storck. The complete unit consisting of motor and battery weighs around 4.3 kilos and is combined into a module that is inserted into the down tube from below. The Fazua drive is characterised by the fact that it works with relatively low torques. Instead of taking complete control of the rider and bike, it provides support with a slight, rather inconspicuous push. Three support levels can be selected: Breeze (100 watts maximum assistance), River (210 watts maximum assistance) and Rocket (250 watts maximum assistance). Above 25 km/h, the motor disengages barely noticeably and is completely resistance-free. Provided the rider has the right level of performance, it is no problem to roll along in the slipstream of a faster group.
What are the benefits of the Fazua update for the Canyon Enruace:On AL?
Canyon is one of the first manufacturers to deliver a Fazua bike with a new software update. The "Black Pepper Performance Update" promises more power, a wider power distribution and better support for cadences between 50 and 120 rpm.
The aluminium frame of the Endurace:On AL is based on the geometry of the Endurace marathon racer. Anyone with experience of road bikes will immediately feel at home on the bike. The riding position is not extremely stretched, but is undoubtedly typical of a road bike and perfect for longer tours. However, in order to integrate the drive, the chainstays are ten millimetres longer than on the non-motorised version. The slightly longer wheelbase and the bike's low centre of gravity due to the drive unit make the Endurace:On AL extremely smooth and stable, at least on paper. We will provide an experience report as soon as possible.
How the Canyon Endurace:On AL is equipped
It is equipped with Shimano GRX gravel bike components with eleven gears, disc brakes with 160 millimetre discs, 32 millimetre wide E-One tyres from Schwabe and thru axles front and rear.
