New Canyon Speedmax TT at the World Championships: World Championship victory on a prototype

​On the opening day of the 2026 UCI Road World Championships in Montreal, Canyon not only delivered a result that is likely to have had the champagne corks popping in Koblenz. It was also a triumph for a new prototype: a previously unrevealed Speedmax CFR TT bike from the Canyon Factory Racing team. Swiss rider Marlen Reusser won the 39.2-kilometre elite individual time trial in 50:24 minutes, securing the rainbow jersey. Zoe Bäckstedt (Great Britain) finished second – 40 seconds behind, also on a Canyon.

Borrowed from the Speedmax Triathlon

The bike, which according to Canyon will lead the new Speedmax TT series, bears similarities to Canyon’s Speedmax triathlon machine, which was only unveiled this year. For instance, the angular, widely flared seat stays have been carried over; a water bottle and holder have been integrated into the lower frame triangle in such a way that they function as an aerodynamic fairing. Particularly striking is the front end, featuring an extremely wide double-bridge fork, whose upward-extending legs support both the base handlebars and the armrests.

According to Canyon, the design was developed with a focus on aerodynamic efficiency, frame stiffness and an ergonomic, adjustable fit – whilst ensuring full compliance with UCI regulations.

For Reusser, it was also a real test of her mettle: on the city circuit, it initially looked as though victory would go to Bäckstedt. After the first two checkpoints, the British rider was in the lead. In the decisive final stage, however, Reusser put in a strong performance and turned the race around. The prototype’s triumph thus marked a “world-class debut” for the latest CFR development.

According to Canyon, the Speedmax CFR TT was developed at the company’s headquarters in Koblenz (Germany). The manufacturer regards the double podium finish in Montreal as the culmination of an intensive development cycle – whilst, at the same time, the next generation of the Speedmax CFR TT is being prepared for a later commercial launch. Canyon intends to announce specific details regarding technical specifications, global availability and launch dates in the coming months.

Until then, there’s still more time trial action to come at the World Championships: first for the U23s and Juniors, followed later by the road races.
