Geraint Thomas: The greatest successes
Geraint Thomas is a two-time Olympic champion in track cycling. In 2008 in Beijing and 2012 in London, he won the gold medal in the team pursuit. In the same years and also in 2007, he became world champion - also in the team pursuit. In 2011 he became European champion in this competition. Thomas won his first UCI World Tour race at the E3 Harelbeke in 2015.
A year later, he won the overall classification of Paris-Nice, another race in this category. This was followed in 2018 by victory in the Criterium du Dauphine and the title of British time trial champion. His biggest career title followed in July of the same year with overall victory at the Tour de France. In 2019, Thomas finished second in the Tour de France behind his team-mate Egan Bernal. In 2022, the Welshman won the overall classification of the Tour de Suisse.
Geraint Thomas was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the Union Europeenne de Cyclisme (European Cycling Union). In 2018, he was named Great Britain's Sportsman of the Year and Cyclist of the Year in his home country of Wales.
