The Italian manufacturer Elite is promoting the "Nanogelite" as the first crushable thermo drinking bottle suitable for cyclists. The trick: a gel as an insulating layer in the double-walled plastic sleeve keeps the contents of the bottle warmer for longer in winter and cooler for longer in summer.
The fact that this is not an empty promise was demonstrated during our several weeks of testing the "Nanogelite". On trips below ten degrees Celsius, the contents of the bottle were still at a pleasant temperature after three hours. Tea at 70 degrees Celsius was still 30 degrees after three hours in a refrigerator at seven degrees Celsius.
The "Nanogelite" holds 0.5 litres of liquid, fits into most bottle holders and costs 18.50 euros.
