After 162.5 kilometres, the professional from Bora-Hansgrohe ahead of his team-mate Aleksandr Vlasov. Kämna attacked from the group of favourites on the final climb around six kilometres before the finish and was joined by Jefferson Cepeda (EF Education EasyPost) also had a companion. Both rode together towards the finish line, taking the lead with Joe Dombrowski (Astana Qazaqstan Team) caught the last remaining escapee and left him standing.
The Cepeda-Kämna tandem reached the final kilometre with a small lead. There, Kämna attacked again, shook off the Ecuadorian and crossed the finish line as the solo winner, while Cepeda was overtaken by Vlasov, who arrived four seconds behind Kämna with the rest of the group of favourites.
"I'm very happy that it worked out today. My second victory at the Tour of the Alps, having already won a stage last year. It was the only option for me to start a little earlier. I was lucky that I had Cepeda at my side, who also set the pace," said Lennard Kämna after his stage win at the Tour of the Alps 2023.
In the overall standings, Tao Geoghegan Hart (Ineos Grenadiers) took the leader's jersey. Kämna improves to sixth place, his team-mate Vlasov is seventh.
The Austrian Felix Gall (AG2R-Citroën Team), who crashed in a promising position on stage 2 of the Tour of the Alps shortly before the finish in Ritten the day before, lost time on the competition on Wednesday and dropped back to tenth place in the overall standings.
On Thursday, the Tour of the Alps 2023 continues with stage 4, which leads over 152.9 kilometres from Rovereto to Predazzo.
