Shimano sends shockwaves through the cycling cosmos every four years. With a market share of more than 90 per cent, the Japanese company has a decisive influence on the look and function of road bikes in the coming years. The harbinger of the new design and new functions is always the highest quality and most expensive component group, the Dura-Ace. It sets the pace. The manufacturer invests as much energy and development time in no other product. But in 2017, the top groupset is not getting up to speed as quickly as desired. While the next generation of Ultegra, which is one step lower in the product hierarchy, has already been announced for the summer, the industry is desperately waiting for the delivery of the new Dura-Ace disc brakes in particular. And the first watt measuring device from Shimano is also not yet available.
