Bowden cables are generally robust and reliable - unless they have to be routed with many changes of direction and in tight radii due to lack of space or other reasons. Trickstuff from Freiburg now has a solution, at least for brake cables.

The Hiflex brake cable consists of extremely fine individual wires, which make it significantly more flexible than conventional cables. This reduces friction in the curves of the outer sheath. According to our test results, higher braking performance is more of a theoretical nature, but we can confirm the promised improved modulation. On a frame with internally routed cables, changing the rear brake proved to be an inexpensive tuning measure. One disadvantage: once shortened, the ends of the cables splice more quickly than usual, making disassembly and reuse virtually hopeless unless the ends are soldered.

The cables fit all Campagnolo, Shimano or SRAM levers with universal nipples, are available in two lengths and cost €7.90 each.

PLUS Smooth-running with tight radii; better dosability
MINUS Ends splice open quickly
