Chain reaction The emergence of the US manufacturer SRAM has triggered the most violent reaction in the road bike component market. Campagnolo revitalises the "Super Record" and strives to succeed with the first series-produced plan, clarifies the first comprehensive laboratory and practical test by TOUR.

Campagnolo "Super Record" - a name that makes almost every racing bike enthusiast go into raptures. The Super Record was Campagnolo's legendary racing drivetrain of the 70s and 80s before it disappeared from the range for many years. As a result, memories of the Super Record are associated with shiny chrome, filigree steel frames and polished aluminium parts. Campagnolo is reintroducing the name for the 2009 season and labelling the new top groupset, which is positioned above the previous Record. Campagnolo's arguments in the current competition between component manufacturers, which has been noticeably revitalised by newcomer SRAM: eleven sprockets on the rear wheel and thoroughly revised components from the previous top Record. Then as now, the Super Record is a "tuned" Record groupset, which boasts many technical refinements in addition to the historic lettering. Carbon and titanium as far as the eye can see, plus ceramic bearings on the cranks and derailleur pulleys: The higher price is to be justified above all with image-boosting materials and low weight.

SHORT & SHORT

The new Super Record surprises with many changes in detail. A large proportion of the components have been reworked using a lot of carbon, titanium and ceramic, while other parts have been retained unchanged from the Record. The new shape of the shift brake levers is well done. The shifting behaviour of the drivetrain is not yet completely convincing and is very sensitive, at least when it comes to adjustment.
