Single test: Adapter for Speedplay road bike pedals
Speedplays Zero pedals are lighter and flatter than other pedals, but they have disadvantages: You don't run well on the extremely durable cleats, and they leave scratches on smooth floors.

The new "Aero Walkable Cleats" are an effective remedy for both problems. The plastic coating on the underside dramatically improves the running properties and solves the problem of scratches. The manufacturer also promises an aerodynamic advantage, which the small dents in the surface, reminiscent of a golf ball, are responsible for (although we have not measured this). In practice, the plates take some getting used to. Getting on the pedal is not as easy as with the conventional metal plates due to the braking plastic. Unclicking, on the other hand, is as easy as usual. The assembly proves to be tricky. The actual cleat consists of a metal cage that is attached to a base plate with four screws. The prescribed tightening torque of 2.5 Newton metres must be observed, for which Speedplay offers a special Phillips screwdriver with a preset torque. If the torque is disregarded, the adapter will warp and it will be impossible to get on.

PLUS Good running properties, long service life
MINUS Assembly tricky, very expensive

Price 59,95 Euro per pair
