Speedplay pedals in the TOUR endurance test
With the shape of a lollipop, the Speedplay pedals found their first fans in the triathlon scene in their original form. Now available in many colours, the Zero model with adjustable foot clearance has also arrived in the professional peloton - and rightly so.

On our 25,000 kilometres of testing, the Speedplay Zero in the lightweight titanium version shone with quick entry and exit, always a firm grip on the pedals and plenty of lean angle clearance. The plates hardly wore out - the first ones are still doing their job. With Look or Shimano, we would have had to replace them long ago. However, a prerequisite for a long service life is that the click-in area is regularly wiped clean and then lubricated. Depending on the mileage, you should also apply grease to the pedal axle bearings at least once a year using an external grease gun. Only the pedal march is somewhat more slippery than with traditional plastic cleats.
