Test 2017: Jtek adapter for road bike gears - Combination helper: Jtek Shiftmate gearshift adapter

These are small rollers with two different diameters that can be used to influence how many millimetres the cables travel per shifting step. This makes it possible to change the gear ratio of the shifting system and to combine shifters and shifting systems from different manufacturers. There are a total of nine different Shiftmates, two of which we have tested: Shiftmate 3, for example, allows you to combine Campagnolo's nine- and ten-speed levers with Shimano's nine- and ten-speed shifters and cassettes. With Shiftmate 8 or 8A, Shimano's 11-speed road bike levers can operate the 11-speed mountain bike shifters and cassettes (and vice versa). An Ultegra single-speed drivetrain, for example, can be trimmed for maximum mountain performance with Shimano's SLX single-speed cassette with 11-42 teeth and the corresponding SLX rear derailleur. Installation is relatively simple and the system worked perfectly in our practical test. However, you should be aware that such conversions invalidate the manufacturer's warranty.
