The Spanish manufacturer Rotor is trying to establish itself alongside Shimano, Campagnolo and Sram with the Uno_ groupset. We show you what's behind the new drivetrain

Founded in 1994 by Pablo Carrasco and Ignacio Estellés, Rotor was previously known primarily as a manufacturer of accessories. Now the Spanish company wants to take the next step - with the Uno hydraulic shifting system. We paid a visit to Rotor's headquarters near Madrid and took a look at the new shifting system. In addition to the detailed report in TOUR 3/2018 how the UN Group is organised in detail:

Big things: The voluminous grips work according to the SRAM operating scheme and are best suited to large hands. You can tell from the somewhat loose-fitting rubber grips that this is the first evolutionary stage.

Airy: Without the fairing, the grips are slim and only contain the master cylinders of the hydraulics, as the detent mechanism is located in the rear derailleur.

The art of milling: the cylinder and structure are milled from a solid piece, and you can still recognise the paths of the tooling. Rotor also manufactures the carbon parts itself.

Expandable: The front derailleur sometimes lacks the power to pull the chain safely onto the small chainring even under light load. The fact that a correction step is required to avoid grinding when leaning also reduces shifting comfort.

Fail-safe: The rear derailleur is versatilely adjustable and has a quick release for wheel removal. The hydraulics are not disturbed when you manually push the parallelogram into the next gear.
