Virtual training on the free roller - smart indoor trainers put to the test: Elite Arion Smart B+Photo: Elite
Smart training on the free roller? Elites Arion Smart B+ makes's possible. Our test shows whether this unusual indoor trainer is worth buying.

Classic free roller, with a connection to virtual worlds. The wheel rests on three rollers and you really have to ride and keep your balance - unlike the trainers where the wheel is fixed. Advantage: There is always something to do and balance is trained effectively. Disadvantage: The flywheel mass is lower, which makes the pedalling less round at low pedalling frequencies; and you can fall off the roller. The brake is not as powerful as on stationary trainers and the pedalling power displayed is significantly higher than the true measured value. Calibration can be used to approximate real values, but this trainer is no substitute for a power meter. The brake level is sufficient for endurance training, and we were also able to use it in the Zwift world. The roller is easy to fold up and transport. It also works without power and an app and is therefore versatile.
