As every year, Zwift is introducing numerous updates this year, which are gradually being rolled out. Let's go inside.

From September: New controllers and simplified access

New Zwift Click controllers will be available from 9 September. The new Zwift Click controllers have integrated navigation and shortcut buttons, similar to Zwift Ride, and can be mounted on almost any type of handlebar. Particularly practical: The button configuration can be customised so that you can align the controllers to your preferences. The upgrade kits for all Zwift Cog-compatible trainers are available for 49.99 euros.

In addition, the Zwift Ready programme will be expanded to make it easier to enter the virtual training world. From 2025, more trainer options will be available from manufacturers such as Wahoo, Elite, Van Rysel, JetBlack and Garmin-Tacx (in the USA only). Prices start at 299.99 dollars, 279.99 pounds or 250 euros.

Getting started made easy with personalised training recommendations and automatic goals

A key element of the upcoming updates is the introduction of personalised training recommendations in November. These AI-supported suggestions are designed to help you achieve your fitness goals more effectively. The recommendations take into account your most recent training load, your preferences regarding activity types and other factors. With just one click, you can jump straight into the recommended activity without having to search for suitable content.

The "Tune" button gives you the option to choose between different types of content, including workouts, routes, events and Robo Pacer rides. You can also adjust the duration of the activities so that it fits into the time slot you have available. For users who have set up connections to external coaching apps, such as TrainingPeaks, this content will be prioritised on the home screen.

From September, it will be easier for you to connect to Garmin, Wahoo and Hammerhead. These connections will not only give you additional XP for your outdoor rides, but also allow you to track your fitness trends in the Zwift Companion app and set goals based on your past activities. A new feature also allows you to automatically adjust your weekly goals based on the last few weeks' data.

Progress report and expanded New York map

From November, a revised progress report will be displayed after completing an activity. This summarises all the important information, including the development of your fitness score, your training status, your goal achievement, current streaks, progress with bike upgrades, level progress, improvements in your race score and much more. After the activity, you have the option of analysing these metrics in more detail in the Zwift Companion app.

New York, we're going to New York!

One of the biggest new features is the expansion of the New York map, which will be introduced on 27 October. With 31 kilometres of new roads, this is Zwift's biggest map expansion in years. The expansion includes 20 new routes, 16 of which are for bikes and 4 for running. The new routes will take you from futuristic Central Park out into the city and across the underground network to Prospect Park.

Power segments and race improvements

Speaking of New York. A new segment function is being introduced in the New York subways: Power Segments. This new variant of sprint segments focuses exclusively on wattage. You start at the starting arch and give it your all until the timer reaches zero in order to achieve the highest possible average wattage. After completing a segment, you will see your personal result and how it compares to your performance over the last 90 days. You will also see how you compare to the global community. The power segments will also be introduced in other Zwift worlds over time.

For people who race, there is also some news. The Zwift Racing Score has established itself as the standard categorisation system, and the 11 categories now used for Zwift events make racing more competitive by ensuring tighter performance groups. The latest changes to the Zwift Racing Score include a 'score decay' for racers who have not competed in the last 30 days, updated seed scores based on recent personal bests and a new option for organisers to categorise racers by their 30-day best.

New events and tours

From 6 October to 16 November, "Zwift Unlocked" will take place, a brand new Zwift tour that replaces the Tour of Watopia. Like its predecessor, Zwift Unlocked offers double XP, but brings with it 10 completely new routes in several Zwift worlds. You have the option to ride or race each stage, with long and short options offered throughout.

The Virtual Brompton World Championship will be held on Zwift from 17 to 23 November. The week-long race series will take place in virtual London. The races will be held on customised routes (short and long options) and all participants can unlock the special tweed kit. A matching Brompton bike will be available in the DropShop from November.
