The Justo is the new top model from the Italian manufacturer Elite. The Smarttrainer is compact, easy to store thanks to its foldable feet, has a strap for carrying and promises braking power of up to 2,300 watts. Savouring the latter was beyond our capabilities.
The Elite roller trainer shines with a very solid ride feel and fulfils the expectations of a top device. The only drawback: Because the braking power cannot be reduced low enough in higher gears, you have to engage an uphill gear to ride comfortably. Two elasticated feet under the stabilisers give the trainer lateral freedom to tilt for a more natural riding experience. We found this pleasant. A second set of harder feet is included.
In comparison with our reference power meter, the Justo shows between three and nine watts less. Elite uses an optical sensor and therefore has a real power measurement on board. The device also calibrates itself, which makes it easier to use.
Two special features: The Elite Justo has two Bluetooth connections and can bundle the signals from other sensors, such as heart rate or other power meters. This is an advantage when used in conjunction with Apple TV. A telephone socket is also fitted for future wireless connections - similar to the Wahoo Kickr WiFi.
Strong, accurate, compact and with some tilt freedom. Can also be used without an app and/or power.

With the Justo, Elite is expanding its range of interactive roller trainers with a new top model. It inherits many proven features from the Direto XR-T, Elite's previous top model. Nevertheless, the new roller trainer has been redesigned from the ground up and comes with a slimmer shape as well as some exciting new features and clever upgrades.
The new smart trainer from Elite will be launched in September. The Justo offers innovations in performance and connectivity, for example. Thanks to the LAN connection, failures in the middle of an e-race should be a thing of the past. Environmental compatibility has also been improved.
The Justo has a function that allows the Roller trainer automatically calibrated. The aim is to make training more precise, as the performance data is output continuously and accurately without the need for manual intervention.
A realistic riding experience includes movements of the bike. The sideways movements that occur when riding outdoors are imitated by Elites Flex-Feet. As with other trainers, the riding behaviour of Elites Justo can also be adapted to the individual body structure, riding style and general roller trainer set-up. There are two stiffness options to choose from.
"Biomechanical tests have shown that the natural rocking motion of the Elite Flex Feet reduces fatigue and tension in the shoulder and back muscles and improves the effectiveness of indoor training," promises Elite.
The Elite Justo has a dual Bluetooth channel, allowing two sensors to be connected to the roller trainer at the same time, such as a bike computer and training software.
The Justo can be paired directly with heart rate or cadence sensors. The data received can be sent to apps via a bridge function within its existing data stream in the standard Bluetooth, Smart FTMS and ANT+ FE-C protocols. This ensures that three devices can be paired with platforms such as Apple TV, which can actually only be connected to two Bluetooth Smart sensors at the same time; for example the Justo, a heart rate monitor and the Rizer, an incline simulator, or the Sterzo, an electronic steering plate from Elite. In addition, the new indoor trainer from Elite is able to create a "virtual" heart rate monitor and switch between ANT+ and Bluetooth if programmes are used that are not compatible with the protocol of your "real" heart rate monitor.
The Justo can be connected directly to the router or computer via Ethernet LAN cable. Why? An internet connection failure is particularly annoying in virtual bike races. The direct connection via a LAN cable is intended to minimise failures.
In addition to the new features, Elite claims to have focussed on a compact shape, which is particularly important for transport and storage. At 6.2 kilograms, the flywheel is 22 per cent heavier than that of the Direto XR-T, making the ride smoother and the noise level lower, especially at high speeds.
The topics of sustainability and environmental compatibility are being addressed and taken into account by more and more companies, not least in order to fulfil ever stricter requirements. Elite has also made adjustments to its production.
The Elite Justo will be available from September 2022, for example here available.
