The sun is shining, the carbon frame is gleaming and the quiet running of the chain is the only sound in the tranquil landscape. This is how road cycling should be. As long as everything runs smoothly, cyclists and dealers are best friends. They share the hobby and enjoy the fine technology. But what happens when the chain keeps jumping back and forth or cracks appear on the surface of the frame? Then the customer and dealer often become bitter enemies - also because both sides are all too often unfamiliar with the legal basics.

Bike dealers and customers conclude a purchase contract that is valid for many years. Three essential components of this contract are regulated by law: the right of cancellation if you have ordered online or by telephone; liability for material defects and product liability. There is also an additional guarantee and a comparatively new model called Crash Replacement, both of which are activated by the purchase. But what is behind all this?
