The training camp is calling, we're coming - preferably with our own bike. Here's how to pack your racing bike safely and inexpensively so that it arrives safely at its destination.

The training camp is calling, we're coming - preferably with our own bike. Here's how to pack your racing bike safely and inexpensively so that it arrives safely at its destination.

Get it beforehand:

  • If you don't have a bike case, you can get a bike box from a bike dealer or from a shipper (wide boxes are better than narrow, high ones).
  • You can also get two dropout spacers and various packaging materials (bubble wrap) from the bike dealer (often free of charge).
  • Leftover pieces of power cable with copper wire are available from electricians. They are flexible, can be twisted and are more practical than cable ties because they can be reused.

Degree of difficulty: feasible for everyone

You will need:

  • Tool: Allen key, pocket knife, pedal spanner, torque spanner
  • Auxiliary means: Parcel tape, cloth, cable, chain oil, penetrating oil
1. remove old locking clips that could injure you or damage the bike. Tear off old address labels or cover them completely and durably with new ones bearing your hotel or home address. Reinforce the base with pieces of cardboard so that nothing pushes through if the box gets damp.
