The Bild newspaper reports on an incident in North Rhine-Westphalia in which a cyclist was travelling at a significantly excessive speed. On Wednesday, the mobile speed camera of the police in the Märkischer Kreis district registered a cyclist travelling at 59 km/h through the 30 km/h speed limit zone. Exceeding the speed limit by 29 km/h earned him second place on the region's weekly speeding list.
The speed measurement took place on Wiblingwerder Straße in Nachrodt-Wiblingwerde. According to Bild, a police spokesperson explained the particularly sensitive nature of the location: The Lenneschule school, a sports hall and a swimming pool are located in this area. Pedestrians can enter the road at any time and children do not expect to see bicycles travelling at such speeds.
In theory, the cyclist should have been fined for exceeding the speed limit by 29 kilometres per hour. However, the police were unable to catch the man. Without a licence plate, it will be difficult to establish his identity, which is why no fine proceedings have been initiated so far. Nevertheless, the police are appealing to all road users to drive appropriately, with foresight and caution.
