"This is not a video, we ever wanted to make" - that's how the announcement of the end of GCN+ begins. A message also appears on the streaming service's website: "Important information about your GCN+ subscription". It continues: "We regret to inform you that the GCN+ service and the GCN app will be discontinued on 19 December 2023."
Anyone who still has a current subscription at the time GCN+ is cancelled will receive a Refund for the remaining subscription days. A current payment method must be stored for this.
GCN stands for Global Cycling Network. Initially known from YouTube for road cycling videos and live coverage of cycling races, the GCN+ streaming service was launched in 2021. It not only offers live streams of cycling races, but also films about cycling - GCN+ Originals - and its own weekly programme.
GCN+ is a subsidiary of Warner Brothers Discovery. And Warner Brothers Discovery has now adapted its strategy to the changing media landscape.
... it's because the media landscape has changed, according to the announcement video on YouTube. Warner Brothers Discovery wants to offer more content on fewer platforms.
In Europe, cycling races can still be watched on Discovery+, Eurosport or Eurosport Extra, depending on the country. In Germany, cycling races can still be watched on Discovery+ and Eurosport. Outside of Europe, Warner Brothers Discovery will inform users as soon as possible where their favourite sport can be followed via live stream in the future.
The end of GCN+ does not mean that the YouTube channel will also be closed. The Global Cycling Network website will also remain - globalcyclingnetwork.com. The end only affects GCN+ and the GCN app. GCN has been offering content on road cycling, bike racing, technology and more for 11 years. This will continue. The creators would like to take this opportunity to thank all the users, the community and the interest.
