Multisports specialist Decathlon has unveiled ambitious growth plans for the German market.

According to its press release, the company is planning to invest up to 100 million euros by 2027, which will go towards both new shops and the modernisation of existing locations. Decathlon intends to expand its store network to 150 locations over the next three years, including 60 new branches.

Over the next three years, we will really step up the pace and start a wave of expansion. After all, we want to become the preferred sports brand in Germany. We are significantly expanding our store network. Close to the people and with new formats. We will also be creating a large number of new jobs to achieve this. - Arnaud Sauret, CEO of Decathlon Germany

Van Rysel branches planned

To date, Decathlon has been known in Germany primarily for its large multisport shops, which offer a wide range of products in spaces of between 1,800 and 8,000 square metres. The company is now also planning to open smaller shops of 500 to 1500 square metres in popular shopping centres and pedestrian zones. According to Stefan Kaiser, Director Real Estate at Decathlon Germany, the aim is to be represented in the top 15 pedestrian zones in Germany. Exciting news for racing cyclists: there will also be branches of the Van Rysel racing bike brand in the future.
