Canyon, the bike mail order company, is now offering a build-up service "Collect & Ride" on. Canyon also cooperates with local bike shops.

If you want to order your bike from Canyon but don't want to assemble it yourself, you can now book the additional Collect & Ride service. The service costs 149.90 euros and will initially be offered at 40 local bike shops. The Collect & Ride service will initially only be offered in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. It is intended to close the "gap between online shopping and the service offered by a local bike shop", according to a press release. The advantage for the buyer is professional assembly and convenient maintenance in bike shops that work together with Canyon.

Since the end of the 2000s, Canyon has been operating a service network in cooperation with independent bike dealers that offers customers access to local maintenance and repair services. In future, this service network will be expanded to include the option for customers to commission selected bike shops to deliver and assemble bikes.

Home delivery

Canyon bikes are delivered to customers in sturdy cardboard boxes to protect the bikes from damage during transport. Customers also receive all the tools required to assemble the bike - including a torque spanner and, if necessary, a shock pump. There is also a step-by-step guide explaining how to assemble a Canyon bike. If you still want to leave the assembly to a professional, you can collect the fully assembled bike either from Canyon in Koblenz or from a service partner. In both cases, this costs 149.90 euros. Canyon explicitly emphasises that no bike fitting is included in this price.

The dealers who offer the Collect & Ride assembly service take care of unpacking and assembling the bikes shipped by Canyon. They dispose of all cardboard packaging and recycling materials and hand over the new bike to the customer in ready-to-ride condition.

We expect the service to appeal to customers who might not buy a bike from Canyon without it. - Marcus Graeser, Director 3rd Party Services at Canyon.

Currently, the Collect & Ride service is only available to customers in Germany, Austria and Switzerland during the order process on canyon.com and in the Canyon app. Collect & Ride will be introduced in other regions in 2024 and 2025.

Free assembly service at Rose & Storck

Other mail order companies also offer a build-up service for road bikes. At Radon, the service costs 40 euros. Radon currently has around 120 service partners listed on its homepage. Consignors like Storck Bicycle and Rose Bikes even offer a free assembly service for collection from the brand's shops. Rose also offers free instruction from a customer advisor. Customers can collect the bikes from Rose stores (Bocholt, Berlin, Munich, Cologne and Posthausen as well as the Swiss stores) and from the shop-in-shop areas (Sport Reischmann Kempten + Ravensburg, Intersport Borgmann Krefeld + Solingen, Wohlleben Sports Dörfles Esbach & L&T Osnabrück) free of charge. "The bike is then assembled ready to ride and all important aspects of the bike are explained and any remaining questions about the bike are answered at the collection appointment. The saddle adjustment is done together, we don't make any other specific adjustments. For example, we also show them how to remove and install the wheels so that they already know how to handle the bike when they need to transport it," explains Sarah Hahn, Manager Retail Development, to TOUR.

Rose Bikes currently has the largest stationary network of partner workshops thanks to its cooperation with the German bicycle service organisation Verbund Service und Fahrrad (VSF). In addition to its nine own stores and eight co-operation shops, the Bocholt-based bike manufacturer says it works with 160 selected partner workshops in the DACH region. Although there is no set-up service at a fixed price, "at some locations, however, our customers choose the partner as the shipping address themselves (in consultation with the respective partner) and then pick up the bike set up there," Hahn explains further.
