With the GX L3K, Lilienthal has launched a carbon wheelset for gravel bikes which, according to the manufacturer, weighs around 1,003 grams. It combines hook-rimmed rims with carbon spokes and costs 2,899 euros. BIKE has not yet published an independent weight or practical test of the new model.

Carbon rims made in Germany: that’s what the small German company Lilienthal produces. With the GX L3K, the brand is now set to launch its lightest set of wheels for gravel bikes to date. At a price of 2,899 euros, it’s clear that the GX L3K is aimed at riders who prioritise low weight over a lower price. To put this into perspective: another particularly lightweight gravel wheelset, the We weighed the Roval Terra CLX III in our test laboratory at 1,068 grams. However, a direct comparison of weights is only possible once it is clear which components were included in Lilienthal’s weight specification – and once we have been able to weigh the wheelset ourselves.

Carbon rims and carbon spokes

Lilienthal uses its own 28-inch GX Gravel Hook rims, combined with OGS Ultra-Light Road hubs and Alpina Carbolite carbon spokes. The visible 3K carbon weave on the rims defines the bike’s look, but in itself says nothing about stiffness or durability. Whether the lightweight construction offers noticeable advantages on gravel cannot be deduced from the technical specifications alone. However, given the low weight, the ride performance is sure to be excellent.

According to the press release, tyres with a width of between 32 and 55 millimetres and a maximum system weight of 130 kilograms are permitted. The permitted tyre pressure ranges from a maximum of 4.0 bar for 32-millimetre tyres to 2.4 bar for 55-millimetre tyres.

Lilienthal is offering the GX L3K for pre-order as a complete set for €2,899. Details regarding handling and load capacity remain to be confirmed pending an independent test.
