In practice, however, the scepticism quickly disappears. The voluminous top bar, which does not necessarily require a handlebar tape, is extremely comfortable to grip, as is the compact shape with a drop of just 13 centimetres (the difference in height between the top and bottom ends of the handlebars) - although this depends heavily on personal preference. Thanks to its moderate pre-bend, the M35 harmonises well with current shift brake levers, and the handlebars sit comfortably in the hand in all grip positions. The weight is pleasingly low and the stiffness is high for the diameter. Sprinters and powerful riders will appreciate this inflexibility, but the handlebars do not provide comfort.
The equipment with internal cable ducts for the cables and titanium bolts on the stem is of a high standard, as is the workmanship, but this hardly justifies the price of a good 470 euros. However, Deda now also offers a cheaper 35-millimetre version with aluminium handlebars. Some computer holders that can only be mounted on the handlebars may not fit the large diameter.
