Test 2015: ZIS-2 crank from Zinn
The well-known US frame builder and author Lennard Zinn not only builds customised frames for extra-large and small riders, the ex-racer also has accessories such as long crank arms manufactured in the USA.

The ZIS-2 road cranks are a modern design with a bolt circle of either 110 or 130 millimetres, available in lengths between 190 and 220 millimetres. They are compatible with SRAM's GXP bottom brackets, with an adapter also for BB-30. Weighing 780 grams, the matt black crank arms made of solid 7075 aluminium are not particularly light, but extremely stiff. The Q-factor (the width of the cranks, measured on the outside of the crank) at 190 millimetres is 156 millimetres, almost 10 millimetres wider than usual. Our test rider chose 190 mm long crank arms with a compact bolt circle and the FSA Road Super Compact chainrings. There was no issue with the pedals touching the front wheel when cornering. The longer lever feels particularly comfortable when riding uphill. The crank arms currently cost around 706 euros, plus shipping costs and customs duties. Chainrings and bolts together totalled 119 euros.

PLUS High quality, two bolt circles, many lengths up to 220 mm
MINUS Very high price, only available as an import from the USA
