Prescription sunglasses: Oakley Shield Fusion with prescription lenses

The number of cyclists who need prescription sunglasses is growing steadily. Oakley is responding to this with Shield Fusion, a technology that integrates prescription lenses directly into Shield designs. The company is collaborating with Shamir, a specialist in optical solutions.

Lamination process instead of inserts

The lamination process bonds the corrective lens directly to the rear surface of the Shield lens. This eliminates the need for conventional inserts, which are visually obtrusive and take up space. From the front, the correction remains virtually invisible. Vincenzo Spremulli, Senior Director of Global R&D and Innovation at Oakley, explains: “The result is a prescription solution designed as a fully integrated system that delivers field of vision, fit and performance without compromising a single detail of the product design.”

Availability and correction range

Shield Fusion is available for the Sutro, Sutro Lite, Sutro Lite Sweep and Sutro Lite Small models. The technology can be combined with all Prizm lens colours in the Sutro range. The prescription range is from -3.00 to +3.00 dioptres, with a cylinder value of up to -3.00 dioptres. The glasses are available now from selected Oakley retailers.
