With the X-Kross 4.0, the Munich-based sports eyewear manufacturer is launching a new model for racing cyclists with visual impairments.

The basis of all Sziols models with prescription is a frame with hinged temples made of flexible plastic, to which the optical lenses are attached. The so-called front lenses (from 49 euros) can then be attached using a central twist lock. These are available in numerous tint gradations, including nine variants for cyclists alone.

Particularly helpful alongside the sunglasses-like Focus variant: the Orange Pure lens, which works well as a contrast enhancer in poor visibility. Also good: If you have front lenses from previous models, you can also use them for the X Kross 4.0. The goggles can be further customised with six different adjustable nose pads. There are also numerous new frame models (from 110 euros). This means that the X.Kross 4.0 can be completely customised to suit your own preferences. The test goggles were equipped with a carbon frame and Focus lens - a cool look that barely lets you recognise that these are sports goggles with optical lenses.

The most striking innovation is the integration of the optical lens: the front clip is now more firmly integrated into the frame shape, but can still be clicked out if required. This ensures a better hold and allows the glasses to be worn without the front lens if required. Compared to its predecessor, the X-Kross 4.0 has an enlarged overall surface area. This is clearly noticeable in headwinds and rain and provides a better overview in traffic. As with the previous model, the scratch marks where the optical lenses and front windscreen meet are annoying during intensive use. Tip: Small spacers in the glass can prevent this.
