Self-tinting: Variotronic S road bike goggles from Uvex
The biggest drawback of self-tinting glasses is that it takes a while for their lenses to adapt to the light situation. With the new Variotronic S from Uvex, this is a thing of the past.

LCD technology is integrated into the lens, which switches from dark to light and vice versa within fractions of a second under sensor control. The technology as such works perfectly; you can switch manually or leave the tint change to the automatic system. In our practical test, however, this led to occasional unmotivated switching between light and dark. This may be due to the placement of the sensor on the inside of the left temple, where it cannot react sensitively enough to changing light conditions. Otherwise, the glasses are very comfortable to wear thanks to the flexible nose pad and bendable temple tips, and despite the battery and electronics, at 40 grams they are only 10 grams heavier than conventional cycling glasses. According to the manufacturer, one battery charge lasts around 50 hours, but there is no charge level indicator.

PLUS innovative, quick tint changes, universal fit
MINUS Unmotivated tint changes in automatic mode
