Photochromatic glasses are a type of sunglasses that automatically adapt to changing light conditions. The lenses tint darker or lighter depending on the UV radiation. These glasses therefore offer practical and comfortable protection for the eyes in different environments without having to constantly switch between different pairs of glasses. People who cycle in all weathers and at different times of day in particular can enjoy the benefits of photochromic glasses. Cycling goggles work for many lighting conditions, so you can always see clearly, even at dusk or when talking. In the TOUR test, we tried out the Skyvision Photochromic from Cratoni.
The Skyvision Photochromic from Cratoni is a pair of cycling glasses with a modern shield look, with a large lens that is curved far around the face and changes its tint according to the photochromic principle, i.e. relatively slowly, depending on the amount of sunlight. In low sunlight, the tint is very low, the maximum darkening corresponds to category 3 (dark tint); in practice, however, we found it slightly less dark than other glasses with the same but fixed tint. The eye area is well protected from wind, dirt and insects.
The upper frame nestles relatively close to the forehead, there is not much room for bushy eyebrows and long eyelashes can bump against the lens. The matt frame makes a stable impression, but the plastic tends to take on a greasy sheen after prolonged use. The nose pad is not adjustable and is relatively wide, meaning that the sunglasses can sit low or slip on slender noses; the comparatively inexpensive glasses sit securely on normal to large noses.
In the above-mentioned comparative test of the six photochromic sunglasses, the conclusion on the Cratoni Skyvision is as follows:
The favourable Cratoni Skyvision is a good and simple pair of self-tinting sunglasses that you can use every day on your bike without regret thanks to their relatively low price. - Marc Strucken, online editor
>> Strengths: good fit and good protection for normal head proportions
>> Weaknesses: can slip on slim noses
