Good cycling glasses are important for every cyclist. TOUR tested the eShades E1 from Swiss eyewear manufacturer Eyerex.

Sports glasses with self-tinting lenses are ideal for road cycling because the lenses can adapt their tint to changes in light and shade. However, if the light conditions change abruptly, the lenses used to date reach their limits and the adjustment is too slow. The Swiss eyewear manufacturer Eyerex solves this problem with a new technology.

The lenses of the eShades E1 change tint within a tenth of a second; this is made possible by the sensor above the nose bridge, which works without an external power source, and a photoelectric disc. The light intensity is the decisive factor, not the UV radiation as with conventional photochromatic lenses. In practice, the technology works perfectly; at 31 grams, the eShades do not weigh much more than classic cycling glasses.

Thanks to the adjustable nose pads, they are easy to adjust. The look is strongly reminiscent of Oakley's Radar EV Path, which is not the latest trend in terms of sports fashion, as glasses with large, one-piece lenses are currently in vogue. We were confused by the manufacturer's recommendation to avoid contact with water, although the goggles offer IPX4 protection (protection against dust and splash water).
