A few years ago, lace-up cycling shoes seemed to be history. Now they are making a comeback. TOUR tested one model: the Specialized S-Work 7 Lace.

The new top model from Specialized with laces: the S-Works 7 Lace. The fit is good, thanks to the lacing, the test model in size 42.5 with its comparatively soft upper material fits quite well around the instep of the tester's very narrow feet. A small rubber expander is incorporated to securely stow the loops of the laces so that they don't get caught in the chainrings or get wrapped around the pedal axle. The sole is very stiff. The cut-out for the ankle is rather narrow. The S-Works 7 Lace is also super lightweight: the TOUR scales showed 219 grams per shoe (size 42.5) - albeit with a very light insole from the manufacturer, which does not support the arch of the foot.
