Cycle faster, ride longer - and with more comfort! Specialized's advertising message for its insoles sounds very much like the three wishes that racing cyclists would make to the fairy godmother: Quite a few people complain that their shoes pinch or choke the blood after a while of riding, the soles of their feet burn, joints ache or ankles are chafed. And there are many reasons for this. Ill-fitting shoes that are too narrow or too wide can cause just as much discomfort as orthopaedic problems. Flat, splayed, hollow, bent or flat feet are a sober reality for cyclists, as they are for everyone. The body reacts to such misalignments with compensatory movements, which, however, put more strain on muscles, ligaments, tendons and joints. A specially moulded insole may cause the entire leg to rotate differently and interfere with the movement sequence.
SHORT & SHORT
Customisable road cycling shoes are an option for cyclists with sensitive feet. A gain in comfort is possible, but not guaranteed. The insoles from Conform'able and Specialized can also increase comfort and support the foot. However, they do not solve orthopaedic problems - the only solution is to visit an orthopaedic specialist.
