Knitwear specialist Uyn from Italy, known for its seamless jerseys, vests and socks, now also produces road cycling shoes. We tested the Naked Carbon model, priced at 269 euros. Putting them on without a shoehorn is tedious, the edge of the shoe is quite stiff. Once you're in, the knitted upper shoe moulds comfortably around your foot, no seams pinch and the good ventilation cools you down pleasantly on summer rides. The first impression that you might not be able to find enough support in the shoe quickly disappears, as the external frame holds the feet firmly in place via the - somewhat fiddly - twist fastener. The hemp insole is comfortable underfoot and the outside of the shoe is water-repellent despite the airy knitted material. Uyn states that the shoes can be washed at 30 degrees on a gentle cycle.
