Fizik Ergolace 2: The newly revised version of the versatile off-road shoe for gravel, trail or bikepacking adventures. The series emphasises comfort, freedom of movement and control - on and off the bike - and has now been consistently expanded to include a flat pedal version.

Topics in this article

The Fizik Ergolace was never intended as a pure racing shoe, but as a robust companion for long days off the tarmac. The Italians are now pursuing precisely this claim. The Ergolace 2 is noticeably wider in the forefoot area and dispenses with superfluous material. The result: more space for the toes, fewer pressure points and an overall more airy, touring-friendly fit.

Evolution for everyday life and adventure

Regardless of the pedal variant, Fizik relies on a lightweight, quick-drying ripstop upper material, supplemented by generous PU reinforcements in exposed areas. A reinforced toe box protects against stones and roots, while the bootie construction made of perforated Airprene replaces classic tongues. This is designed to prevent material overlap and ensure an even, pressure-free fit - particularly relevant on long stages.

One concept, two pedal worlds

Fizik offers the Ergolace 2 as a click version as well as a flat version - with clearly separated purposes.

  • The clipless pedal version relies on a moderately stiff nylon shank and is designed for efficient power transmission without restricting your ability to walk too much. It is aimed at trail and gravel riders who pedal a lot but don't shy away from pushing sections.
  • A new addition is the Ergolace 2 Flat, which has been specially developed for flat pedal riders. Instead of cleat mounts, Fizik has opted for a completely closed X2 Flat outsole with Vibram XS Ride rubber compound. A profile divided into zones with flatter lugs in the midfoot area improves interlocking with the pedal pins, while more aggressive profiles on the heel and toes offer support when pushing. The flex is significantly higher than the click version - deliberately chosen for more comfort and control.

Ergonomic lacing as a common basis

Both versions utilise the tried-and-tested Ergolace Speedlace system. Arranged asymmetrically, the lacing does not collide with the drive unit and can be adjusted quickly and precisely - even while riding. The result is a secure fit without constriction, regardless of whether the focus is on efficiency or freedom of movement.

With the Ergolace 2, Fizik remains true to its line: not a shoe for second chasers, but a well thought-out companion for long off-road days. The revised fit and the reduced upper material bring noticeable advantages in terms of comfort. The fact that Fizik now offers a consistently designed flat version is more than just portfolio maintenance - it finally makes the Ergolace a real all-rounder.
