New gravel shoes: Shimano SH-RX710 available in three widths for the first time

Shimano has revamped its shoe fit concept and is launching a new gravel model: the SH-RX710. This off-road shoe is technically based on the top-of-the-range S-Phyre RX910 model and is aimed at cyclists who want to combine sporty performance with a high level of comfort, whether in gravel races or on long tours. What makes it special is that it is built around Shimano’s Dynalast 2.0 – a revised last design that is now available in Standard, Wide and Narrow sizes.

Shimano’s own test data provided the basis for this: according to the manufacturer, an analysis of over a million foot scans showed that many feet – particularly those in the wider size range – were simply not accommodated by the previous fit. The result is Dynalast 2.0.

Editorial assessment

When I spotted the press release in my inbox, I was immediately intrigued – it reads: “A better fit for more riders”. Does that perhaps mean more room for the toes? Yes, amongst other things. With the new Dynalast 2.0 fit system, Shimano is moving from two to three fit options. Previously, there was a women’s fit and a men’s fit; now there are Narrow, Standard and Wide. More toe room sounds like greater comfort, especially on long rides. Shoes that don’t fit the shape of your foot can quickly cause pain or even numbness. That’s exactly where Shimano comes in. Another argument in favour of the RX710: It looks almost identical to the S-Phyre RX910, but costs significantly less (€249.95) than its top-of-the-range sibling (RRP €389.95). We’re very keen to see how the shoe performs in practice.

The shoe in detail

Shimano’s new SH-RX710 gravel shoe features a carbon-reinforced midsole with a stiffness rating of 9 out of 12. It is designed to enable efficient power transfer without compromising comfort on long rides. The cleat system features a replaceable mounting plate, ensuring that the connection between the cleat and the shoe remains reliable over the long term. Two BOA L6Z rotary closures allow for a precise fit that can be quickly adjusted even whilst riding.
