With the Vento Powerstrap Aeroweave X, Fizik pushes forward into new dimensions of lightness and breathability in the off-road racing segment. Specially designed for cross-country and gravel competitions, the shoe combines several innovative technologies to reduce weight and maximise performance at the same time.
At the heart of the Vento Powerstrap Aeroweave X is the second generation of the Aeroweave upper material that gives it its name. This innovative construction weaves nylon fibres with thermoplastic polymer filaments to create an extremely breathable, mesh-like fabric. According to the manufacturer, the material is now even lighter and softer than before, without compromising on robustness and support. Another key advantage of the Aeroweave material is its ability to not absorb water in wet conditions. This should ensure that feet can pedal faster with less weight and dry more quickly in wet conditions - a factor that should not be underestimated in the often unpredictable conditions of off-road use.
For a secure fit on the foot, Fizik relies on the tried-and-tested Powerstrap fastening system. In contrast to conventional Velcro fasteners, which only pull both sides of the shoe together, with the Powerstrap a strap wraps around the entire foot. The aim is to achieve a particularly secure hold with just two straps. The instep and midfoot can be adjusted separately, which should enable a customised fit and compression. The straps are now even slimmer to save weight and provide more support at the same time. Fizik emphasises that with the Powerstrap system, the wearer feels secure support, but not pressure.
To efficiently transfer the rider's power to the pedals, Fizik equips the Vento Powerstrap Aeroweave X with the X1 carbon sole. This sole, made entirely of carbon, is characterised by a high stiffness-to-weight ratio. The manufacturer promises direct power transfer from the shoe to the pedal. For additional versatility and off-road performance, the X1 sole is equipped with large lugs and a rubber coating over the entire surface, including the midfoot area. This is intended to provide better grip on running sections, which are not uncommon in cross-country and gravel racing.
According to the manufacturer, the Vento Powerstrap Aeroweave X weighs 265 grams and is available in sizes from 36 to 48, with half sizes also available from 37 to 47. The X1 carbon sole achieves the maximum value of 10 on Fizik's stiffness index, which emphasises the shoe's focus on high-performance competitions. Fizik has positioned the shoe in its Vento series, which was developed in collaboration with professional cyclists and is designed for maximum performance.
The Vento Powerstrap Aeroweave X is clearly aimed at ambitious cross-country and gravel racers who are looking for an ultra-light and high-performance shoe. According to Fizik, the combination of minimal weight, maximum ventilation and efficient power transmission makes the shoe the ideal choice for demanding XC routes or fast gravel races. The shoe benefits from technologies that were originally developed for professional road riders and have now been adapted for off-road use.
