Lighter. More breathable. And yet significantly more robust. The most striking new feature of Fizik’s Vento Powerstrap is the further-developed Aeroweave upper. This consists of a mesh-like structure made from woven nylon fibres and thermoplastic filaments.

Editorial assessment

Fizik remains true to itself when it comes to Vento Powerstrap Aeroweave X remains true to its principles, consistently prioritising lightweight construction and performance over extra comfort. The new upper material should reduce the weight slightly further and improve ventilation on hot days. The Powerstrap Velcro straps are a straightforward and robust alternative to the high-tech twist fasteners, which are often prone to failure during tough off-road use. At 330 euros, the price of the new Vento is a bit steep. And is white really a good choice for an off-road shoe? Well, fortunately that’s a matter of taste. What do you think of white gravel shoes? The aim of the design described above is to achieve the lowest possible weight whilst maintaining high stability. In the second generation, the material is set to be even lighter and softer, without compromising on strength. At the same time, the open structure is intended to significantly improve ventilation and protect the feet from overheating in summer. A practical bonus: the material absorbs hardly any water and therefore dries very quickly – meaning that even after a brief thunderstorm or downpour, your feet will be dry again in no time.

Powerstrap instead of a twist lock

Instead of traditional BOA dial fastenings, Fizik continues to rely on its in-house Powerstrap system for this shoe. Two wide Velcro straps completely encircle the foot, ensuring an even distribution of pressure.

Unlike conventional Velcro fastenings, the foot isn’t just secured at the sides – the strap wraps round the entire foot like a belt. The instep and midfoot can be adjusted separately, allowing for a personalised fit. The design is deliberately kept simple, which can be a particular advantage on long gravel or bikepacking stages. Whereas twist fasteners can quickly fail when exposed to dust, a Velcro fastener generally remains unaffected.

Carbon sole for direct power transfer

For power transfer, Fizik relies on the X1 carbon sole. It is one of the stiffest in the range (Stiffness Index 10) and is designed to transfer pedalling power with as little loss as possible. The sole also features a continuous rubber tread pattern, including pronounced lugs. This improves grip when off the bike – for example, during carry sections or running segments in a race.

The Vento Powerstrap Aeroweave X is part of Fizik’s Performance range and has been specifically designed for fast off-road disciplines. XC races, gravel events and fast marathon rides are its preferred terrain. The shoe follows a clear principle: low weight, high ventilation and maximum efficiency – without any additional comfort features or scope for touring use. A glance at the weight confirms this approach: 265 grams per shoe, including the pronounced tread pattern, is an exceptionally low figure.
