The Fizik Terra Nanuq GTX is actually designed for mountain bikers - more precisely for the all-mountain sector. We think it is also well suited for gravel tours and for all people who ride mountain bike pedals on a road bike. The version for flat pedals could ensure that your feet stay warm and dry on your commuter bike on the way to work. Most recently, Fizik presented the Terra Ergolace GTX from the "Terra" series.
Both the Terra Nanuq GTX for clipless pedals and the version for flat pedals have the same design. The only difference is the sole.
This shoe is made for the time of year when mud, wetness and cold play a major role. The Gore-Tex Koala membrane is designed not only to keep feet warm and protect them from the wet, but also to be breathable so that feet don't sweat too much. In addition to the Gore-Tex membrane, the integrated fleece is also responsible for protection against the cold. Grip is provided by the X2 outsole, which is chunkier on the clip-in version than on the flat-soled model.
The upper material of this cycling shoe is made from a multi-layer ripstop fabric and is designed to be hard-wearing and abrasion-resistant. Additional durability and protection for the toes is provided by a large thermolaminated plastic (PU) coating on the sides, heel and toes.
For short and long bike tours, comfort is of course important in addition to functionality. To ensure this, the Boa-Fit system with adjustment wheel and zip is an advantage, in addition to a wider range of shoe sizes (36-48). The Boa twist lock offers precise adjustment options to adapt the shoe to individual requirements.
The big difference between the two shoe models lies in the sole: Fizik has chosen a coarser profile for the clip-in version. The Vibram XS Trek EVO rubber tread ensures a smooth ride, especially when walking. More grip and traction - both on muddy ground and on stones. The cleat gear of the Fizik Terra Nanuq is wide and can therefore be combined with various SPD and Crankbrother clipless pedals and matching cleats.
In addition, the X2 offers more flexibility when placing the cleats thanks to an extended plate track with more rebound. The sole itself consists of two layers, with the EVA midsole providing stability and cushioning like the flat pedal model. However, it is significantly stiffer than the flat pedal version.
This model comes with a flat sole, but is otherwise similar to the Fizik Terra Nanuq GTX Clip-in in many respects. The Nanuq GTX Flat also comes with a Gore-Tex Koala membrane, fleece and BOA closure system. The material of this model should also be hard-wearing. Together with the flat pedal-specific sole, the Fizik Terra Nanuq should be able to cope with any weather and any terrain. According to the manufacturer, the XS-Trek sole should provide grip on and off the bike.
With its flat sole, the bike shoe is also suitable for use off the bike. For example, it can be worn on the way to and from work - and of course in between. No annoying clacking with every step. With the sole of the Terra Nanuq, Fizik aims to combine efficient pedalling performance, comfort and the ability to wear the shoe off the bike.
The sole has a two-layer construction: The EVA midsole provides stability and cushioning, while the Vibram rubber tread provides grip and traction. The lug profile is designed not only to grip on muddy ground, but also to adhere well to smooth rock thanks to its rubber compound.
