The Cube Peak Pro was developed for gravel, cyclocross and marathon cyclists. The shoe is therefore designed to meet a wide range of requirements. How does it manage this? The combination of everyday practicality, comfort and power transfer promised by Cube really stood out to us during our test. In particular, the Ergo insole ensures a soft feel inside the shoe, whilst the rubber sole really comes into its own when you’re off the bike. Despite its comfort features, power transfer through the pedals is excellent.
The stiff, glass-fibre-reinforced nylon outsole is designed to facilitate direct pressure on the pedal. At the same time, it must provide sufficient comfort and grip whilst riding.
Cube uses two twist fasteners on each shoe to ensure a quick fit and a secure hold. The upper, made from PU and ripstop fabric, is designed for durability. A reinforced toe cap and a sturdy heel counter protect the areas subject to the most wear and tear. Inside, the NF Ergonomics insole provides cushioning and distributes pressure evenly around the foot. This is particularly comfortable on longer walks or when you’re on the move a lot.
The Cube Peak Pro is a reliable companion for all kinds of rides. We were particularly impressed during our test by the high-quality build, the comfortable sole both on and off the bike, and the ease of adjustment using the two twist locks. - Maik Schröder, TOUR editor
In our test, we tried size 46. The shoe fits comfortably around the foot and can be adjusted to the right fit using the two twist fasteners. The shoe can be adjusted simply by turning the fasteners. If you turn them in the opposite direction, you can easily loosen the lacing and slip the shoe off. During the test, the ease of use of the Cube lacing system was a particular highlight.
The principle that ‘the stiffer, the better’ – which is common with road cycling shoes – cannot be applied directly to gravel shoes. Whilst a rock-hard carbon sole transmits every twitch of the calf to the pedal without any loss, the constant vibrations from the gravel are also passed on to the feet unfiltered.
With the Cube Peak Pro, a (necessary) compromise has been struck between comfort and performance. During our test ride, we were impressed by the power transfer between the shoe and the pedal. The foot is securely held in the shoe, yet you don’t feel restricted. Despite the stiff sole, the shoe feels comfortable and remains pleasant on the foot even after prolonged wear.
The Cube Peak Pro gravel shoe stands out for its high-quality construction. The upper is neatly bonded to the sole. The cleats were easy to fit and stay securely in the rail. The shoe feels well-made and gives the impression of being a reliable companion for any ride and in any weather conditions.
Off the bike, the Cube Peak Pro feels pleasant and comfortable, and it feels almost like a normal shoe. You can walk in them easily and the rubber lugs provide good cushioning. The only slight drawback is a bit of slippage at the heel, but you don’t notice this at all whilst cycling or when pedalling.
