Specialized presents new cycling fashion for road and gravel bikes with the 2024 spring collection. Just in time for the start of spring - i.e. the meteorological start, minus the tolerance of just under two weeks due to global warming - and with the snowdrops, crocuses and the first hazel catkins already in bloom. And the colours of spring can be seen in the new Specialized parts of the racing-style, skin-tight Prime Lycra range and the Gravity Training mountain bike collection.
By the way, the name Prime of the new race clothing is pronounced in French, not English. So "Priem", like the prize in French cycling races, or for English speakers "preem", as it was called in the press material otherwise written in German.
Improved compression, a new structure and new materials characterise the new Prime series from Specialized. The new zips are lighter and easier to use than the previous ones. The seams of the jersey pockets have been lined with tapes so that the fabric - said to be so fine that you would wish for "sheets made from a nylon/elastane mix" - does not tear so quickly. The braces have also been reinforced. Small additional mesh pockets in the Prime SWAT road bike trousers can hold small items. The most exposed areas of the clothing are treated with a sun protection factor of 30 against UV radiation.
Of course, the Specialized Prime road bike clothing is also made for admiring and looking at, but first and foremost for fast cycling. And on the hunt for the best times, any distraction, flapping, pinching or pinching is a nuisance. The Specialized Prime cycling clothing is therefore not a weekend leisure outfit for strolling through the beer garden as cool as possible. According to Specialized, the cuts are made for the riding position on the bike and are emphatically race-orientated. For the cycling shorts, you can choose from the tried and tested Body Geometry seat pads in three different densities.
The highlight of the new jersey range is the super-sporty Prime LT jersey, which, at just 82 grams, weighs 37 per cent less than the simple Prime jersey, according to Specialized. Ultralight and ultra-fast drying. Moisture transport is said to have been accelerated by 17 per cent thanks to the touch of fabric - perfectly dressed and almost nothing on.
The Specialized Prime Jerseys are available for 140 euros, the ultra-light Prime LT Jersey ten euros more. The bib shorts cost 170 euros, the Prime SWAT bib shorts 180 euros, and the matching wind waistcoat costs 100 euros.
Together with the brand new colours Coastal Frog (is that the green?), Valley Floor (the one with purple?) and Desert Plains (the new beige?), the long-sleeved jerseys and shorts of the new Gravity Training for mountain bikers are presented. None other than five-time downhill world champion Loic Bruni and team-mate Finn Iles provided the input for the list of requirements for a light and airy training outfit that is also ideal for relaxed forest laps on a gravel bike. It had to be comfortable and pleasant to wear, robust enough for intensive off-road training laps and - of course - also look particularly good.
Specialized is also visibly proud of this result. The jerseys and shorts of the new Gravity Training MTB clothing are casual and comfortable, yet robust and stretchy. The material is as soft and comfortable as only a special weaving mill in Japan could make it. Nightless underarm zones on the long-sleeved jersey reduce possible creases and thus visual and tactile irritation.
The seams of the airy Specialized Gravity Training shorts are fully taped to allow maximum freedom of movement as well as minimum weight. And because you don't mind getting hot, the Gravity Training cycling jerseys and bike shorts are made from particularly quick-drying material that is also 100 per cent recycled.
The long-sleeved Gravity Training Jerseys for men and women cost 70 euros across the board, while the Gravity Training Shorts are available for 170 euros.
