Santini and Polartec present the Aero Race Jersey, the first cycling jersey made from recycled carbon. The Polartec Power Dry material with Recycled Carbon is created using carbon capture technology, which converts industrial CO₂ emissions into polyester fibres.

Santini will be the first brand in Europe to use Polartec Power Dry technology with Recycled Carbon in 2026. The new Aero Race Jersey combines this material technology with aerodynamic properties from wind tunnel tests. Polartec, a brand of Milliken & Company, developed the fabric using a process that captures CO₂ emissions and converts them into recycled polyester fibres. Put simply: Polartec utilises a process in which carbon dioxide is captured from industrial waste gases and reused as a raw material. The gas is chemically converted in a catalytic process to produce building blocks for polyester. These building blocks replace some of the usual petrochemical raw materials from which polyester is produced. The end result is a recycled polyester that is partly based on carbon dioxide.

Material and production

The Polartec Power Dry fabric with Recycled Carbon consists of 91 per cent recycled carbon. The carbon capture process captures industrial CO₂ emissions before they are released into the atmosphere and converts them into polyester fibres. The finished material weighs 128 grams per square metre and is designed to be particularly vapour permeable under intensive use. The calculation of the reduced CO₂ footprint is based on a comparison between recycled carbon-polyester and conventional polyester.

Aerodynamics and construction

Development in the wind tunnel led to strategically placed back panels that are designed to fit snugly to the body. The sleeves have a striped structure designed to influence the air flow. An elasticated hem with silicone grip ensures stability, while the sleeves are raw-cut, i.e. without an annoying cuff. Three back pockets provide storage space and three colour options are available.
