Although football and cycling are two completely different sports, they are very close to each other in Bergamo. The city is characterised by two well-known sports companies: Atalanta Bergamo is now one of the largest football clubs in the country, while Santini is known throughout the world for its production of cycling clothing. Both companies are very important for the identity of the northern Italian city.
This is why the partnership between Santini Cycling Wear and Atalanta Bergamasca Calcio came about, who have presented a collection of cycling clothing in the colours and with the crest of the football team. The Atalanta collection developed by Santini could be of interest to all those who want to show their enthusiasm for football and Italy while cycling.
The collection from the two major Bergamo-based sports companies comprises seven items of clothing, including two jerseys, a pair of bib shorts and matching accessories. All garments are in the club colours of the Italian first division team: blue and black. In addition, the Santini and Atalanta logos can be seen on all items of clothing.
The jerseys differ in fit, material and graphics. One jersey is designed for ambitious amateurs who love an aerodynamic fit. The jersey is manufactured in Italy. According to Santini, the jersey is also made from 100 per cent recycled materials - from PET and waste yarns. Blue fabric, black sleeves and the Atalanta crest on the chest ensure a minimalist design.
The other jersey has been given a more classic cut. It is said to be a blend of extremely light and permeable fabrics that also guarantee breathability. The graphic on the back is inspired by the symbols of Atalanta, the goddess after whom Atalanta Bergamo is named. The collar also features the motto "La maglia sudata sempre" (Always with the sweat-soaked shirt). The front of the jersey features a blue and black colour gradient.
There are also bib shorts, socks, gloves, scarves and cycling caps.
Atalanta Bergamo is an Italian football club from Lombardy that plays in Serie A, Italy's top division. The club is named after Atalante, a figure from Greek mythology, and is therefore also known as "La Dea" (The Goddess). Atalanta celebrated its greatest national success when it won the Italian Cup in 1963 against AC Turin. However, "La Dea" has probably enjoyed its most successful period in recent years.
In the 2018/19, 2019/20 and 2020/21 seasons, they finished third in the Serie A table and regularly qualified for the UEFA Champions League. In the 2019/20 season, they even reached the quarter-finals of the top flight, where they were narrowly eliminated by Paris Saint-Germain. At the time, the team was known for its exhilarating attacking football - they regularly had the best attack in the league. One well-known former player is current German international Robin Gosens, who is now under contract with Inter Milan.
Santini Cycling Wear was founded in 1965 by Pietro Santini. Santini currently produces 7,000 items of clothing per day and exports 85 per cent of its production.
In professional cycling, Santini not only equips the American team Lidl Trek The Bergamo-based company also supplies the jerseys for many major tours: For example, the classification jerseys for the Vuelta a Espana or the Tour de France manufactured by Santini.
