Waterproofing is not only important for shoes to protect them from moisture and dirt, but also for functional clothing. TOUR tested a waterproofing spray from Atsko.

The waterproofing of functional clothing to protect against moisture needs to be renewed after a few washes. The "Silicone Water Guard" spray from Atsko provides silicone-based protection, which is generally considered to be less harmful to the environment than the widely used agents containing perfluorinated hydrocarbons (PFCs). We tried it out on a Vaude softshell jacket, where water droplets barely beaded off the outer shell.

The spray head does not distribute the liquid in a particularly fine mist, but from a spray distance of around 15 centimetres it is easy to see where the fabric is already wetted; it is pleasant that the substance hardly smells. After a drying time of around two hours, water droplets roll off the jacket almost completely. If used sparingly, one spray bottle should be enough for around six to seven jackets or weather jerseys.
