The Italian manufacturer Santini provided us with the Magic unisex rain jacket for our comparison test. With a price of 200 euros, the jacket is positioned in the upper segment. It is available in four colours and is manufactured in a family-run business in Bergamo. We were curious to see how the two models we tested would compare with the competition.

According to the manufacturer, the Magic rain jacket is the ideal choice for cyclists who are out and about in the rain. It is characterised by its low weight and can be practically stowed away in its own pocket on the back. The jacket is made from the innovative Polartec® Power Shield™ RPM fabric, which is designed to be waterproof and is made from elasticated, recycled polyester - both for the outer layer and for the membrane on the inside. With a water column of 10,000 mm and a vapour permeability of 30,000 g/m²/24 h, the material combines optimum protection with sustainable production, complemented by a PFAS-free DWR treatment and a fabric weight of 100 grams per square metre, according to the manufacturer. Fully heat-sealed seams and a two-way front zip are designed to prevent water from penetrating. The slim fit is race-optimised and the high collar protects against draughts. The features are rounded off by the reflective Santini logo on the back, which is intended to ensure better visibility and safety in poor light conditions. The jacket can be stowed compactly in its own zip pocket, making it a practical companion on every tour.

Test summary of the Santini Magic jacket

Conclusion: If you prefer close-fitting clothing, the Santini jacket is the perfect fit. The extremely elasticated material hugs the body like a second skin and allows for an aerodynamic fit without flapping. Over time, the wearer may feel slightly sweaty. The collar is a little too tight for a strong neck. The Italian jacket impresses with the best body-hugging cut in the test field and therefore offers minimal wind resistance. The weather protection is solid, but the waterproofing suffers after washing - the water repellency diminishes. There is room for improvement at the back hem, which could do with a little more length, and at the collar, which could be cut a little wider.
