Rain jackets
Waterproof, breathable, close-fitting and comfortable: despite all the progress made, rain jackets for road cyclists should still be able to do more than is technically possible. Our test clarifies how much compromise is necessary. (TOUR 11/2003)

Road cycling is rarely a fun sport in the cold season. But the top models among the weather jackets make it easier to actively wait for better times. The focus of this test on vapour permeability, pack size and a low-flap fit immediately reveals the most suitable models.

Firstly, you should ask yourself the important questions. For example: Does the jacket really have to be waterproof? TOUR selected five wind jackets and seven rain jackets to gather arguments for the answers. All jackets were tested for their "breathability" (the correct answer would be: vapour permeability). Once the decision was made in favour of "tight or not tight", it was the cut that counted. All weather jackets slow down the ride, but those with a special racing bike cut are less irritating than blouson-like wide models.

All jackets in this test:
Adidas Adistar CWP, Descente Rainout, Gonso Highlight, Gore Bikewear Race, Jeantex Annecy, Löffler Windstopper, Nalini Eldorado, Pearl Izumi Flash Jacket, Shimano Compact, Sugoi Viper, Tune Federkleid, Vaude Casella
