Our test of the Kinetixx Luzan winter gloves answers one of the most frequently asked questions at this time of year: How can cyclists protect their hands from the cold in winter? Kinetixx advertises a warm lining thanks to Primaloft material and good wind protection thanks to the Gore-Tex windstopper membrane. The combination of three fingers in one pocket is said to store a lot of heat. Nevertheless, a free index finger and thumb promise good handling. We put the Kinetixx Luzan winter gloves through a real endurance test.
I used the Kinetixx Luzan winter gloves on my daily commute. Temperatures often dropped well below freezing during the test period. In these conditions, cycling gloves have to perform well, otherwise your safety and riding enjoyment will quickly come to an end. - Jan Timmermann, BIKE test editor
At this time of year, cold fingers are probably the biggest excuse for longer bike tours. The Luzan combats this with a thick Primaloft lining and a Gore-Tex windstopper membrane. The so-called trigger construction combines three fingers in favour of heat retention, while the index finger and thumb are enclosed individually. We were able to put the gloves to the test over hundreds of icy kilometres and ultimately attest to the Kinetixx's good thermal performance. An extended cuff prevents cold bridges in the sensitive pulse area. Due to the design, the grip on the handlebars is not quite as direct as we are used to from slimmer gloves, but the compromises in grip and brake handling are pleasingly small. Thanks to the silicone print, the hands do not slip even in wet conditions and the touch function works well in practice. The large reflective elements on the tip of the glove are a nice touch. This also makes cyclists feel safe in road traffic.
As a winter glove, the Kinetixx Luzan* fully convinced. The trigger concept works well for commuting and mountain biking and the protection against cold and wind is impressive. With a convincing finish and practical details, the gloves are worth their price. - Jan Timmermann, BIKE test editor
