They are the most underestimated items in every cyclist's wardrobe: arm and knee warmers. While you spend a lot of time comparing and trying on shoes, trousers or jackets, the inconspicuous fabric sleeves often end up in the shopping basket as an impulse purchase. Size M? Sure to fit. They all look the same anyway. But there is hardly any other item of clothing where there are such big differences in fit as with arm and knee warmers. In the same size, they can differ by more than ten centimetres in length (knee warmers from Scott and Specialized) and up to four centimetres in width (arm warmers from Cannondale and Descente). This is neither a bad thing nor a lack of quality, because everyone has different preferences and proportions. But you have to be aware of it and take it into account when buying. That means: try it out. And in the same way you would wear the items for sport: directly on your skin. Shirt sleeves or trouser legs completely distort the impression. You can't feel the tugging elastic and pinching seams and can only guess whether the arm and leg warmers really fit without a base layer.
In order to take individuality into account, we took the models of 19 suppliers to the TOUR training camp in Cambrils, Spain. On average, each model was tried out by 20 testers - in all weathers and on different routes.
SHORT AND SHORT
Arm and knee rings are a very individual matter. There are considerable differences in length and width within the respective sizes. Nevertheless, none of the test candidates were a total failure. There were only models that tended to suit more testers (Sugoi, Specialised) and those where the proportions had to fit the warmer exactly (Gore, Jeantex). Our advice: Suitable arm and knee warmers are important. Don't buy at random, but take your time to try them on and compare them.
