Active cooling and a replaceable battery

The technical highlight lies in its thermal management. Lezyne relies on a small fan to dissipate the heat generated during pumping. According to the manufacturer, aluminium components are used on the inside, whilst a composite plastic shell provides protection on the outside. The device is complemented by a replaceable battery with a capacity of 750 milliampere-hours. This is an absolute first. According to the manufacturer, a single charge is sufficient for up to six fully inflated tyres.

Flexible hose for various valves

The hose connection is crucial for use on a road bike. The E-Drive uses a flexible inner tube and is compatible with Schlauvand, Presta and the Clik system. However, a separate Clik pump head is not included in the scope of delivery; the pressure target preselection is standard.

The E-Drive achieves standard figures

Lezyne states that it takes less than 90 seconds to fully inflate most tyres. In practice, however, this time depends on the tyre size, the initial pressure and the target pressure; Lezyne states that it takes three hours to fully recharge the battery. The E-Drive is no substitute for a large floor pump in the workshop, but it could be a handy tool to keep in your jersey pocket or saddle bag.

Not exactly cheap

The recommended retail price is 139.99 euros. This puts the E-Drive well above the price of a traditional mini-pump or a basic cartridge system, and in the upper price bracket for mini-compressors. The added value therefore depends not only on the inflation speed or endurance, but also on features such as cooling or the option of a replacement battery. Whether its durability and actual pumping performance justify the premium will have to be demonstrated by a practical test under defined conditions. No independent measurements are available as yet.
