Litelok X3 bike lock: Effective protection against attacks using an angle grinder

With the X3 British manufacturer Litelok is launching a new top-of-the-range model in its X Series. This high-security lock was developed with a clear objective in mind: to offer maximum protection against modern break-in methods, such as attacks using an angle grinder.

Barronium versus the angle grinder

At the heart of the castle is the patented Barronium composite armour, which is combined with a hardened steel core. According to the manufacturer, the material composition was specifically developed to cause cutting discs for angle grinders to wear out more quickly and to reduce their energy consumption. However, the British company is keeping the exact composition of this ‘miracle’ material under wraps.

However, Litelok claims that it is up to 20 times more secure than conventional U-locks, without the weight increasing disproportionately.

Protection against various methods of attack

In addition to its material technology, the X3 incorporates further security features. An anti-rotation feature is designed to make it more difficult to carry out attacks where only one side of the shackle is opened or twisted. At the same time, the Abloy Sentry cylinder is used – a locking system considered to be particularly resistant to picking and attempts at tampering.

For long-term use, a self-closing mechanism protects the lock cylinder from dirt and moisture – a feature that can be particularly important when the lock is used all year round.

Suitable for everyday use despite high security requirements

With 2.1 kilograms The X3 is not one of the lightest bike locks on the market. However, given its focus on security, its weight remains relatively moderate. A rubberised outer coating protects the bike frame from scratches, whilst reflective elements are designed to improve visibility in the dark.

The lock is manufactured entirely in the UK and is aimed in particular at owners of high-end bicycles and e-bikes who need to secure their bikes regularly in urban environments.

Conclusion from the editor’s perspective

The Litelok X3 is part of a new generation of bicycle locks that are no longer designed primarily to deter theft, but to provide genuine resistance against battery-powered angle grinders. Given the rising value of bicycles and the use of professional theft methods, this approach is understandable.

With its Barroniu design, high-quality lock cylinder and extensive security certifications, the X3 is clearly positioned as a premium product for high-end bicycles and e-bikes. Although its weight of 2.1 kilograms is greater than that of traditional U-locks, this seems reasonable given the level of security it offers. The price of 329 euros is high, but falls within the range that owners of bikes worth several thousand euros should be prepared to invest in for additional protection.
